NATURE OF ESCAPE – CAMP & HIKE

DATE:  24th – 25thJan

Talk of beautiful sceneries, magical sunrise and sunsets

If you’ve Ever heard of beautiful sunrises and sunsets and you’ve never been to Chyulu Hills, then you’re yet to see one, sitting between Amboseli plains and Tsavo plains and mostly inhabited by Maasai and Kamba communities, the Chyulu Hills stands at 2188m ASL, forming a 100-kilometre-long volcanic field.

It’s located about 150 km east of the Kenya Rift and it prides itself in having the longest cave in Africa, called the Kisulu Caves.

The hills consist of several hundred small flows and cones with the volcanoes still considered to be active with the last eruption coming in the year 1896.

Interesting fact

There are no known permanent rivers originating from Chyulu Hills, but it has been constantly serving the Tsavo and Galana rivers and surprisingly the source of Mzima Springs on the surrounding plains.

The volcanic nature of the range does not allow rivers to flow since its porous hence making the rainwater to percolate through the rock, with interesting finding stating that the water spends 25 years underground before emerging 50 kilometres away at Mzima springs.
