Mount Satima
“Mountain of the bull calf” as per its meaning in maasai language, is also known as Mount Lesatima and often abbreviated to Satima or Lesatima,
It is the third-highest mountain in Kenya and the highest in the Aberdare Range. At 4,001m (13,127ft)
The northern end of the Aberdares is where its located and its where its peak lies.
The Aberdare range can be accessed via two points: Mweiga (Wandare Trail) and Shamata Gates
Around it stands a number of sharp volcanic cones called “the Dragon’s Teeth”, one of the main conspicuous attractions of Le satima, There are moraines between 3,600 meters (11,800 ft.) and 3,800 meters (12,500 ft.) on the north west of the mountain.

DRESS CODE-
- Tights /cargo pants / hiking outfits, or something comfortable you would normally use for workouts but must be warm enough to protect you from cold, emphasis on quick-dry pants, quick-dry t-shirt, fleece jacket
- Comfortable hiking shoes, (ideal if waterproof), (Tip, always wear a size bigger or half bigger than what you usually wear to the gym)
- Hat/cap/ sunglasses for sun protection
- Warm clothes for change after hiking
- Rain jacket, poncho, rain pants
- Hiking poles(optional)
ESCAPE ITINERARY
- Escape point: International house front car park
- 0415hrs: Meet up at International House front Parking
- 0430hrs: Departure
- 0850hrs: Arrival at Shamata Gate.- followed by 15 min Registration
- 0905hrs: drive to Twin Rock for our hike kickoff
- 0900hrs kickoff after light warm-up and stretches
- 1800hrs expected departure time for Nairobi.

Note:
- Keep time.
- No stops on the way, except for Emergency cases, buy your supplies in advance
- Picks ups on the way should be communicated in advance
What to do when preparing for the Hike.
- Keep yourself active by walking, running, cycling, swimming or any other suitable cardio exercise at least 7 days before the hike.
- Check through and confirm your gear at least 2-3 days to hike
- Increase your water intake 48hrs to the hike day
- Up your carbs intake 48hrs to hike, this helps to increase energy reserves.
- If working out/exercising heavy, Go light at least 24-48hrs to hike day to allow yourself recovery and enough rest time.
- Get enough sleep the night before the hike.
- Check the size of your toe nails, if long, you know what to do.
- Purpose to have your morning meal/ breakfast 2-3hrs before the hike kick-off.
- Park your luggage before you go to bed to avoid rushed packing in the morning.
- Make sure your phone is fully charged
- Pack your personal medication if any in advance especially if your hike is very early in the morning.
