“Whenever I’ve had the chance, my desire to unwind has always made me leave the comfort of my couch and TV remote control to something more Natural on the outdoors. On several occasions I’ve always preferred nature walks, hikes, road trips and ocean side weekends whenever an opportunity presented itself.
One day a friend of mine, Mr. Munyala Mwalo who is a nature lover. Introduced me to a great friend of his, lady Marlyne Kariuki who happens to be running a series of outdoor activities, including hikes and Camps. I then checked out at her social media handles; where I drew the inspiration for escapewithus. I became immediately captivated by what I saw; amazing photos and sceneries she had captured doing series of outdoor activities. Right there and then, I got intrigued because I could connect and relate to what she doing. I then inquired on her upcoming activity, which was a hike on Mt Satima (a place I never had of). I googled it out, and realized that it is the 3rd highest mountain in Kenya. This brought out the fascination in me even more. I asked her for the details which she shared inform of a poster. And just like that, I was off to Mt Satima the following weekend.
The experience was epic, as it was my first hike. Not to mention my fitness physicality that made the activity a joy at each and every moment. I got to associate and socialize with new people that we shared the common agenda with on that fateful day. Some of them were from different countries with different professions and different age groups. It was an ideal networking moment for me. I got “addicted” and yearned for more and more of it onwards. I kept on tabs with Marlyne’s calendar and never missed a single activity.
Marlyne grew confidence in me, and she could task me with responsibilities on a number of occasions, not to mention the discounts I enjoyed since I had become her regular client. Since I had already showed her my desire of running my own outdoor business company someday; she thought of it like a great opportunity for me to learn a thing or two while enjoying her outdoor activities. Normally most people would sense arising competition threat, from such intentions. However, Marlyne wasn’t, in fact she gave me a warm reception into the venture; where I became her assistant and represented her at certain levels in her business. And with such a kind person that she was, kind hearted among her other great personalities you just can’t afford to disappoint her. So whenever she assigned me a duty, I saw it as an opportunity for me to learn from the best, for my own best!
When the time to start my own company came, she gave me her blessings with series of contacts and networks to start and soldier on. And here we are today!
Marlyne is still my mentor and whenever I’m stuck, she’s always the first person I turn to. There is no “Escape with Us” without Munyala Mwalo and Marlyne Kariuki.
